Zaha outshines Aribo as Crystal Palace snap Southampton's 3-game unbeaten run
Ivory Coast's Wilfred Zaha proved himself as one of the top Premier League attackers again on Saturday as he helped Crystal Palace to another victory.
Crystal Palace picked up a slim 1-0 victory over Southampton at Selhurst Park, the home side's fourth victory of the season.
French forward Odsonne Edouard was the goalscorer, powered by a Tyrick Mitchell assist while Nigeria's Joe Aribo could not do much to help his Southampton side avoid defeat.
Southampton lose 1-0 to Vieira's Crystal Palace
Ralph Hassenhutl named Super Eagles star Aribo in the starting line-up, pairing the 26-year-old with English forward Che Adams to lead the Saints' attack.
Patrick Vieira's Palace side were looking to bounce back from a chastising 3-0 defeat to Everton last weekend and thus started the Southampton game on the front foot.
Playing in front of their London fans, Palace dictated the play, creating more chances and having more shots than their counterparts in the first period.
With Zaha at his tricky best, the Ivorian was a lot for the Southampton side to handle while Édouard finally opened the scoring from a fast move in the 36th minute.
It was a game of two halves as Southampton came out of the tunnel after halftime with renewed intent and dominated their hosts while fashioning out chances.
However, the 16th-placed Saints could not find the goal that would maintain their three-match unbeaten run as they look to distance themselves from the relegation battle.
Joe Aribo stats vs Crystal Palace
Joe Aribo put in a commendable performance against Crystal Palace, clearly being one of the best Southampton players on the pitch.
The Nigeria international was effective in attack as he tallied an 86.5% pass accuracy, played two (2) key passes, created one (1) big chance and had two (2) successful long balls from his two attempts.
Aribo also had one (1) shot on target, two (2) dribble attempts, won five (5) of his 13 duels, put in three (3) tackles, and made two (2) clearances.
Southampton will return to action on Sunday, November 6 when they host high-flying Newcastle United at the St. Mary's Stadium.
