Was Real Madrid unfairly treated in their latest La Liga stumble?

The biggest controversy arose from a contentious incident in the 87th minute of their match against Girona at the Santiago Bernabéu. Kylian Mbappé's fall in the penalty area, following a clash with Reinier Jesus, could have been awarded a penalty, but referee Javier Alberola Rojas did not deem it a foul. VAR also did not intervene.
“If the referee had called that in real-time – there was contact – but VAR would never get involved in such a situation,” analyzed Iturralde González.
The former international referee meticulously examined the situation and the actions of the officiating team:
“This is a situation in the penalty area where Mbappé makes an inward movement, and the defender, trying to follow him, hits him in the face with his hand. For me, it’s a penalty, but the instructions to VAR are not to intervene in such instances,” González told “AS.”

“I see a raised hand, but there’s no intention to hit Mbappé. Forwards often exaggerate contact,” stated Alfonso Pérez Burrull on the “Marcador” show on Radio MARCA.
