With the FIFA World Cup taking center stage, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić appeared on TV Prva's morning program to discuss his rooting interests:

"I always find myself cheering for the underdogs from African nations, hoping one of them makes a deep run, though I don't truly expect it. It's always a treat to watch Brazil versus Argentina, that South American derby. Carlo Ancelotti is a wily fox; his team drew 1-1 with Morocco last night, but that doesn't mean much. The European teams are strong – the French, Spanish, Dutch, Belgians, and Germans, of course." - Aleksandar Vučić

The Serbian President also commented on the seasons of basketball clubs Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet and Partizan.

"Once a game is over, I like to look at the scoreboard. And you can say whatever you want from KK Zvezda and Partizan... Zvezda only won the Cup, they had one of the most expensive teams ever, even in Europe – a failed season. Partizan, a relatively expensive team, or slightly less expensive than Zvezda, didn't win a trophy; the scoreboard shows it, a failed season. We can't sugarcoat it. When you approach results this way, rather than making excuses, then results will come."

To recap, the red-and-whites (Crvena Zvezda) won the Radivoj Korać Cup, but both they and Partizan were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Serbian Basketball League. In the EuroLeague, Zvezda's campaign ended in the play-in tournament, while Partizan concluded their season in the regular league phase. In the ABA League, the red-and-whites were stopped in the semi-finals, and the black-and-whites (Partizan) in the final.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11th and runs until July 19th. A total of 104 matches will be played across Mexico, Canada, and the USA. You can follow all the games live on Sportal.rs in our dedicated World Cup section.
