Virves Crowned WRC2 Champion After Calendar Change

The removal of Rally Saudi Arabia from the 2026 World Rally Championship calendar has officially crowned Robert Virves as the WRC2 champion for the season.

The Estonian Toksport Skoda driver secured four consecutive victories during the season and added more points at Rally Chile last week, finishing in second place.

With WRC2 competitors counting their best six results from a possible seven rallies, Teemu Suninen was the only driver who could have challenged Virves for the title after the Chilean event.

Suninen had entered Rally Italia Sardegna, hoping to close the gap on Virves and make a bid for the championship.

However, the cancellation of the 14th and final round of the 2026 World Rally Championship means Suninen can no longer overcome his 41-point deficit to Virves. This confirms Virves and his co-driver Jako Veelo as WRC2 champions.

Virves' title marks Skoda's first since Andreas Mikkelsen's triumph in 2023, and it's the first for an Estonian driver in this category.

He will still compete in Sardinia, having already secured the WRC2 Challenger title in Chile.
