Vinicius Apologises to Teammates Following Red Card

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has apologised to his teammates following his red card in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu, Reuters reports. The Brazilian now faces an anxious wait for the disciplinary committee's decision, which could rule him out of El Clasico against Barcelona at Camp Nou on October 25. Vinicius thought he had doubled Madrid's lead, but the goal was disallowed after VAR reviews showed him pulling Nathan Saliba's hair in the build-up.

After the match, Vinicius—who was introduced as a 52nd-minute substitute and sent off 20 minutes later—took to social media, posting: "I apologise to the team and the fans." Under Royal Spanish Football Federation regulations, pulling an opponent's hair constitutes violent conduct. The standard ban for such an infraction without resulting injury is between one and three games. With Real Madrid facing Sevilla, Barcelona, and Racing Santander in their next three outings, being sidelined for El Clasico would come as a major blow for the 26-year-old.
