Van Dijk: We Need Something Special Against PSG

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has admitted that the Reds must perform at their absolute best to keep their Champions League hopes alive against Paris Saint-Germain. The Merseyside club hosts the reigning champions in the quarter-final second leg on Tuesday, following a 0-2 defeat in the first leg in Paris last week.

“We need something very special to happen, otherwise we won't stand a chance. If we play like we did in Paris, we won't have a chance anyway, in my opinion. The fans will probably be the most important factor, along with our performance. I've been very fortunate to experience those nights where the connection between the fans and the performance was incredible. On Tuesday, there's an opportunity to devise a good game plan and fight for it for more than 90 minutes.”

I'm really looking forward to it. It's a privilege to be in the quarter-finals, no matter what. We shouldn't take that for granted. We must remember that we are Liverpool. We need to make this a memorable night,” commented Van Dijk ahead of the match.

Van Dijk's appeal to the supporters comes amidst protests against rising ticket prices.

On the Kop, there were few flags and banners for Saturday's Premier League victory over Fulham, and fans also boycotted food and beverage outlets inside the stadium.

“I think the fans are the heart and soul of the club, and if they feel this way, to protest, it's obviously their right. I hope they reach a solution with the club, but these things are not up to me. It's important that these issues are resolved because it doesn't benefit anyone,” Virgil van Dijk added.
