Unpunished dangerous tackle sparks fury: Lille consider legal action after losing star to serious injury
Santos sustained the injury following a challenge by Le Havre midfielder Amir Richardson, who escaped without receiving a yellow or red card. Lille branded the tackle "out of control and dangerous," suggesting it warranted a straight dismissal. The club has requested an explanation from Ligue 1 and the French Football Federation regarding the officiating and the VAR review process, while also calling on the league to refer the case to the disciplinary committee.
"The circumstances surrounding the incident and the complete absence of any punishment raise serious questions for our club," Lille said in an official statement.
This is the second major knee injury for the former Portugal Under-21 international, who ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in October 2024. Following Saturday's win over Le Havre, Lille sit second in Ligue 1 and travel to face Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday.
