Fraud is present in every business and that trend is becoming more worrying in the ride-hailing app industry.

Drivers have been caught doing lots of things, from spoofing their locations to faking rides to cash in on subsidies and so on.

In light of this, a lot of app that service that market are coming up with a suite of security features to clamp down on fraud with the latest feature coming from Uber.

Facial recognition will be used to confirm a driver's identity during registration and will also constitute part of periodic spot checks in the app.

This shouldn't change much on the user side. The biggest difference when you are hailing a ride is just that your driver's picture will be more standardized.

The company has also developed a number of unique localizations in Asia over the past few months, one of which is UberMOTO, the motorcycle hailing service.

The new feature is currently in beta and come courtesy of a deal Uber struck with a Chinese facial recognition startup, Face++.

There is no word right now on when the feature will be going to other markets, but stay with Pulse Tech to remain updated on this as it develops.
