Right-handed batsman Azam and seamer Raees had both been selected in the squads for the Asia Cup and WorldT20 but have now been omitted because of arm and hamstring problems respectively.

Azam suffered a fractured forearm in a practice session in Pakistan Super League (PSL) while Raees sustained a hamstring strain that the Pakistan Cricket Board says has left him at "60 per cent of his fitness".

Their places in both squads have been taken by Sharjeel Khan and Mohammad Sami following impressive performances in the PSL.

The third-highest run scorer in the PSL with 287 runs, Sharjeel's 62-ball 117 is the only century in the competition to date. Sami has claimed 11 wickets in six matches.

Khalid Latif has also been rewarded for his strong showings in the PSL - scoring 190 runs in six innings - with a spot in the T20 squad.

Latif comes in for Iftikhar Ahmed, although he cannot feature in the Asia Cup because of technical reasons.
