Transfer Saga Ends? Chelsea Set Deadline, But No Mammoth Bid for Enzo Fernandez Arrived
Manchester City has reportedly shown interest in the 25-year-old Argentine international. Fernandez previously played for Chelsea under current City manager Enzo Maresca. According to the BBC, the London club informed interested parties that offers could be submitted by Friday evening, British time. However, Chelsea reportedly received no bids, and manager Xabi Alonso's team now expects their vice-captain to remain in the squad.
Manchester City, however, does not consider a potential transfer a closed matter and still believes Chelsea would be willing to sell Fernandez. A potential £120 million transfer would rank as the fourth most expensive in football history.
City already invested heavily in their midfield this summer, acquiring Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million. According to the BBC, Fernandez's potential arrival was contingent on the sale of Spanish midfielder Rodri to FC Barcelona. Rodri was awarded the best player of the tournament at the 2026 World Cup.
