Japanese automaker invests $390 million in South Africa

Toyota has invested $390 million (6.1 billion rand) in South Africa.

According to the country's CEO, Andrew Kirby, this investment is for production of Hilux and Fortuner models.

Kirby said this investment would expand the production of these models, adding it would also increase the output, which should reach 20,000 units a year, by June.

"It also improves our competitive levels so that we can try and strengthen our export base,"  the CEO said.

Toyota in South Africa currently exports to 74 countries, mainly in Africa and Western Europe.
