Apple's iPhone named the most influential gadget in history

Renowned publication, TIME, has released its list of the 50 most influential gadgets of all time and AppleiPhone sits atop that list with other Apple products appearing on different rungs of the list.

TIME says it has placed the iPhone on top of the most influential gadget list because it "changed our relationship to computing and information".

The magazine said the changes that the introduction of the iPhone in 2007 brought about would be felt for decades to come, adding that the software and App Store are what truly set the iPhone apart from previous devices.

"What really made the iPhone so remarkable, however, was its software and mobile app store, introduced later. The iPhone popularized the mobile app, forever changing how we communicate, play games, shop, work, and complete many everyday tasks," TIME says.

Apple's presence on the TIME list also continues with  the Macintosh coming in at number three, while the iPod, which was originally introduced in 2001, came in ninth. The iPad came in at number 25 with TIME referring to it as "radically different" from any tablet the world had ever seen before with an interface optimized for touchscreen.

The iBook was in the 38th position with TIME praising it for being the first laptop to offer WiFi capabilities.

Other gadgets on the list include the Sony Walkman at number four, the Victrola record player at number six, the original Nintendo Entertainment System at number 15 and Google Glass rounding it up at number 50.
