Heading into Austin, the Italian holds a 102-point lead over teammate George Russell, while Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and reigning world champion Lando Norris remain mathematically in the hunt. They trail Antonelli by 111, 119, 125, and 139 points, respectively. Antonelli must leave the United States Grand Prix with a cushion of at least 125 points to be crowned champion with five rounds to spare.

The only way this can happen is if Antonelli wins at the Circuit of the Americas, with Russell finishing no higher than ninth and Hamilton failing to finish inside the top four. A victory in Texas for Antonelli would automatically eliminate Verstappen, Leclerc, and Norris from title contention, regardless of where they finish.

Additionally, a victory would guarantee Antonelli the countback advantage in any potential tiebreak at the end of the year, as he would hold the most wins of the campaign. The Italian currently has eight victories—five more than Russell—while Verstappen and Norris have two each. Ferrari duo Hamilton and Leclerc have one win apiece, making them the only six drivers to have stood on top of the podium across the opening 17 rounds of the season.
