Algeria Holds It Strong For Greater African Opposition
After the first round of games involving the African teams, it seemed like the African representatives did not have much to deliver to the World and Africa at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
With the exception of Ivory Coast and Nigeria who did not loose their first games, African teams looked ordinary.
However, the second round of games opened up the scene for African teams with Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Algeria edging really close to the last 16.
Algeria lost to Belgium 2-1 in the first game but the Desert Foxes did not let that deter them rather it inspired their play, especially awakening th sleeping forward against Belgium to an enigmatic 4-2 victory over Korea.
Starman Islam Slimani put the desert foxes ahead in the 29th minute.
The Vahid Halilhodzic side did not relax as they did against Belgium but came forward with a more vicious attack which was awarded with a second goal two minutes later. The more they scored the more villainous they became, without mercy in the wrath unleashed on the Asian warriors, Algeria pulled another lengthy lead seven minutes before half time through Djabou.
South Korea came back strongly in the second half with two goals but it was not enough to prevent another Algerian goal which ended the game 4-2.
With that victory, Algeria have become the first African team to score four goals in the World Cup; the highest any African team had ever scored was 3.
Ghana's qualification hope still hangs on a thread of lean strength, if they manage to finally go through, the Black stars will add to the African command at the World Cup
If Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Algeria make and possibly Ghana make it to the second round, it will be the first in the participation of Africa at the World to have three teams in the last 16.
