Daniel Carvajal's potential move to Getafe took centre stage on Radio Marca's 'La Tribu', featuring journalists Pablo Villa and Roberto Gomez. During the debate, details emerged regarding the issues complicating the former Real Madrid player's switch to the Coliseum, with a specific contractual demand from the player proving to be the primary stumbling block.
According to Roberto Gomez, the veteran has already passed his medical examinations. However, the problem lies in a condition he is adamant about including in the contract.
"Carvajal wants a clause that allows him to leave immediately if an offer arrives from another club during the winter transfer window," Gomez stated.
Such a condition has cast doubt over a deal that seemed virtually sealed and was set to hand manager Jose Bordalas a player with immense top-level experience. Pablo Villa recalled that club president Angel Torres initially described negotiations as very advanced before abruptly changing his tune. According to Gomez, this shift in stance from the hierarchy is down to the player's desire to keep his exit options open after just a matter of months.
Getafe's board are reluctant to invest in a player who could walk away as early as January at the first tempting proposal. The journalist emphasised that for any prudent club, signing a deal for merely a handful of months is a hard pill to swallow.
Roberto Gomez also clarified that the complications do not purely stem from La Liga's financial and administrative regulations, but above all from the disputed clause:
"The player insisted on a specific arrangement: if a bid comes in during the winter market, he can leave Getafe. On top of that, naturally, the club had to ensure full compliance with La Liga's requirements."
Despite the major hurdles, Gomez has not entirely dismissed the prospect of a late twist in the tale.
"Keep watching, because there could still be an unexpected development or a transfer bombshell. We will see what happens when the moment arrives," the journalist concluded.
