The Camera Caught It All: Vinícius's Gesture Towards Erling Haaland Goes Viral
The Norwegian marksman decided the match with two precise strikes, while Brazil only managed to respond in stoppage time. Neymar converted a penalty to narrow the score to a final 1-2, but it wasn't enough to avert their elimination.
Although the defeat is a huge disappointment for Carlo Ancelotti's squad, Vinícius Júnior displayed a remarkable gesture of sportsmanship. As Erling Haaland was giving a post-match interview to reporters, the Brazilian forward approached him, embraced him, and congratulated him on his excellent performance. He did so despite the fact that it was the star Norwegian who had just ended his team's tournament run.
Brazil will now have to wait at least another four years for their sixth World Cup title. Their footballers last lifted the coveted trophy in 2002, and this time their journey concluded in the Round of 16. The last time they exited the tournament at such an early stage was in 1990.
Haaland was the star of the match
After scoring two goals against Brazil, Erling Haaland now has seven goals to his name, putting him level with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé in the Golden Boot race. Overall, he has scored an incredible 62 goals in his 54 international appearances.
He will have the opportunity to further improve his tally, as his teammates, under the guidance of coach Ståle Solbakken, are set to face England in the quarter-finals.
