Gift Orban reacts to Super Eagles snub by surpassing Osimhen in Golden Boot race
Gift Orban has moved ahead of Victor Osimhen in the Turkish Super Lig Golden Boot standings after scoring in Amedspor's thrilling 4-3 defeat to Galatasaray.
The Nigerian striker continued his impressive scoring form with his 10th league goal of the campaign, strengthening his case for a return to the Super Eagles setup.
Orban moves ahead of Osimhen in Turkey
Orban, who joined Amedspor on loan during the summer transfer window, found the net in the second half after struggling to influence proceedings before the break.
The former Lyon forward rose to meet a delightful cross from substitute Furkan Soyalp, heading home from close range beyond Galatasaray goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir. His latest contribution takes his league tally to 10 goals and five assists in 11 appearances since the start of the campaign in August.
That return moves him above compatriot Osimhen in the Turkish top-flight scoring chart, with the Galatasaray striker currently on nine goals and three assists from eight league matches.
Osimhen missed the encounter after undergoing knee surgery following an injury sustained during Galatasaray's Champions League victory over Bundesliga side Stuttgart.
Orban sends Chelle timely message
Orban was not the only Nigerian to find the net for Amedspor, as fellow forward Yira Sor also scored during the encounter.
The attacker came on in the second half for Senegalese striker Mbaye Diagne before showing composure to slot the ball into the bottom corner after a rebound fell kindly inside the penalty area.
Despite their contributions, Amedspor could not prevent Galatasaray from securing a 4-3 victory. Orban's remarkable start to the season comes amid his absence from Nigeria's recent international plans for the AFCON qualifying double-header against Tanzania, with the striker now offering a timely reminder of his goalscoring ability.
With 15 direct goal contributions in 11 league appearances, the 23-year-old will hope his performances force Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle to reconsider his international prospects.
