Liverpool and Dominik Szoboszlai have reportedly reached a principal agreement on a new long-term contract for the versatile midfielder. His current deal was set to expire in 2028, and both parties have been in negotiations for an extension. It is believed the new agreement will run until 2031, and the Hungarian's salary is also expected to see a significant increase.

This development will put an end to speculation surrounding Szoboszlai's future, as he had been linked with a move to Real Madrid. Fans had expressed concerns about a repeat of situations involving Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konaté.

In 147 appearances for the club to date, Szoboszlai has scored 28 goals and provided 26 assists. He was named Liverpool's Player of the Season for the last campaign.

Szoboszlai is expected to be named the team's vice-captain for the upcoming season. In the long term, after Virgil van Dijk eventually departs the club, he is likely to be appointed as the permanent captain.
