Switzerland's young star, Johan Manzambi, is likely to miss the World Cup quarter-final clash against reigning champions Argentina in the early hours of Sunday.
“We still held out hope until this morning. But I don't think you can recover from such an injury in such a short time,” said coach Murat Yakin after the 4-3 penalty shootout victory over Colombia in the round of 16.
Manzambi sat out the match against Colombia after being forced to cut short training the day before the game. The coach added that he is unsure if the 20-year-old will be available for a potential semi-final. “Fortunately, he isn't experiencing pain. Let's see what happens over the next day or two,” Yakin commented.
The Freiburg midfielder is Switzerland's most prolific player in the tournament, boasting three goals and two assists.
