Swiss Football Captain Under Investigation for Fake COVID Certificates

According to Simon Kopp, head of the local prosecutor's press office, the investigation aims to clarify whether a criminal offense occurred in connection with the possible unauthorized acquisition of a forged official document or document forgery. The 33-year-old Xhaka, currently playing for England's AFC Sunderland, continues to benefit from the presumption of innocence.

The Swiss newspaper Blick reported that the player allegedly received a vaccination certificate without actually being vaccinated. However, Xhaka's spokesperson, Andreas Bantel, told Blick that the footballer possesses certificates for two COVID vaccinations from his attending physician. He added that Xhaka is prepared to cooperate fully and transparently with authorities.
