Surgical Anesthesia Leads People to Say Crazy Things
On Reddit, a user asked anesthesiologists to post the funniest things people have said while under gas. One commenter relayed how a patient stroked his arm and said, "You'd make such a great carpet."
Then, there's the 17-year-old patient who acted like the recovery room was a frat party. "She seemed really stoic and introverted when I first interviewed her but when I was dropping her in the recovery room she went into total bro mode," one doctor wrote. "She keep [sic] saying everything was fucking lit. She keep [sic] saying lets party bro and responded to every question with a 'fuck yeah, dude.'
Another user, who is not an anesthesiologist, relayed the time his tight-laced grandma insulted her preacher. After waking up from surgery, the older woman asked, "Who the fuck is that ugly son of a bitch?" The target of the verbal attack was a preacher from her church. Understandably, family members love to retell that story. "She never lived that one down. The story was even told at her funeral," the Redditor explained.
One Redditor shared another story that highlights the importance of clear communication, particularly when discussing medical procedures.
"My dads an anesthesiologist. He was treating a woman, and he said, 'Im putting you to sleep now,'" the commenter wrote. "She replied with the most horrified look on her face, 'Like a dog?!'
