Successful surgery for Fermin Aldeguer, Australian GP participation remains uncertain
Gresini Ducati MotoGP rider Fermin Aldeguer has undergone successful surgery on an injury sustained during his crash at Sunday's Indonesian Grand Prix, with a timeline for the Spaniard's return to the grid yet to be confirmed.
Aldeguer crashed out of the race at Mandalika at the end of lap two in what initially looked like an innocuous fall. However, shortly after the finish, his team announced that he had suffered a fracture to his right thumb requiring operative repair.
The procedure was carried out yesterday in Barcelona by Dr. Xavier Mir and was deemed a success. At this stage, it remains uncertain whether Aldeguer will be able to take part in next week's Australian Grand Prix weekend.
The Spaniard has already missed four races this season through various injuries, sitting out rounds in Thailand, the Netherlands, Germany, and Great Britain. Despite those setbacks, Aldeguer sits tenth in the overall standings with 125 points and a podium to his name—finishing second at the Catalan Grand Prix.
