Coach says he will never turn his back on Nigeria

Coach Stephen Keshi has revealed that he is ready to accept start overseeing the affairs of the Super Eagles if only the Nigeria Football Federation offers him a contract to continue as coach of the national team.

The coach and the NFF have been at loggerheads over the nature of his next contract.

Like we earlier reported, the coach and the NFF met yesterday, Thursday, March 12 in a bid to reach an agreement.

In relation to the criticism which has been thrown at him by members of the House of Representatives, Stephen Keshi said it would be unfair to criticize him after the NFF offered him a new contract to continue as Super Eagles trainer.

“I have been severely hurt by the comments some persons have made about my person in recent months but I prefer to focus on the future.

“The NFF is the body that decides who should coach the national team and if they say they want Keshi, who am I to turn my back on my country?

“I am a professional coach and can coach anywhere in the world but if your country wants you, it’s only proper that you listen to the offer and see how it goes,” Keshi told .

The coach then went on to discuss his 'special bond with Nigerian football' adding that he would give his best coaching the national team if contract talks with the NFF on Wednesday (yesterday) go smoothly.

“It is true that my representatives will be discussing with the NFF about the contract.

“Contracts are a two-way thing. You talk about what you want, what you don’t like and the other party does same.

“I cannot say for now if I will sign the contract. We just have to see how it goes.

“The truth is I have a special bond with Nigerian football. I played for Nigeria at junior and senior levels and won a lot of trophies with my country.

“Winning the Afcon title in South Africa as a coach is also something very special to me.

“I will want to continue to serve my country but we just have to wait and see how it goes,” he said.
