The incident occurred on April 14 in Knutsford, Cheshire. According to police reports, Pickford failed to give way at a junction and pulled onto the road, forcing two oncoming vehicles to brake sharply to avoid a collision. He then accelerated away. Police officer Cecil Ricardo stated that he reached speeds of 50 mph (around 80 km/h) during the pursuit, yet Pickford's vehicle continued to pull away in a designated 30 mph zone.

The England international eventually came to a stop after noticing the pursuing vehicle with its blue lights and siren activated. Pickford pleaded guilty in writing to driving without due care and attention and requested a court hearing to submit mitigating circumstances. The case has been adjourned until December 7, when it will be heard at Chester Magistrates' Court.

Pickford has made 336 appearances for Everton alongside 92 caps for England. He featured at the 2018, 2022, and 2026 World Cups, and started in the finals of both Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, as reported by DPA.
