He was almost out the door at Alvalade, then it seemed he would stay, but Ricardo Mangas might indeed leave Sporting this summer transfer window.

A BOLA understands that Panathinaikos has a strong interest in the Portuguese left-back, after another target for the position fell through. They are expected to submit an offer to the Lions' SAD soon – possibly as early as today.

Ricardo Mangas was signed a year ago from Spartak Moscow for €320,000. The 28-year-old had previously played under Rui Borges at Vitória de Guimarães and joined the team as an alternative to Maxi Araújo. However, after a promising start, he gradually lost influence, ending the season with 23 appearances, 17 of which were starts.

Sporting's initial plan was for Mangas to depart this summer. However, after Matheus Reis's transfer to Russia in February, and with uncertainties surrounding Nuno Santos's fitness, the Lions changed course and were preparing to keep the former Boavista full-back in the squad.

Nevertheless, the prospect of a significant financial gain has reopened the exit door for Mangas, even if it means finding a replacement.
