Last month, following his spectacular performance against Bodo/Glimt, we reported on the growing English interest in Fresneda. Several Premier League clubs were closely monitoring the 21-year-old right-back's displays, not just in domestic competitions but, more significantly, in the UEFA Champions League – UEFA's premier tournament and the pinnacle of club football. Now, that interest has intensified, with English clubs already making approaches for Sporting's number 22.

Fresneda was forced off at halftime during Sporting's 1-0 victory over Estrela da Amadora at Reboleira, a match decided by Daniel Bragança's 59th-minute goal in the 29th round. He reported muscular discomfort during Saturday's game, just days before the crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg in London on Wednesday at 8 PM, where Sporting faces a 0-1 deficit. While initial concerns arose, indications quickly suggested it was merely a precautionary measure.

All signs point to the Spaniard being available, and likely starting, for Rui Borges in the match held in the English capital – one of football's grandest stages and home to the current Premier League leaders. This presents an ideal opportunity for Fresneda to showcase his talent, as emissaries from numerous British clubs, who have been tracking him and have already expressed interest, will be in the stands taking notes.

Newcastle was one of the clubs previously linked with the full-back. Interestingly, Arsenal, Sporting's upcoming opponent, was another, and they will now get to see him in action directly once more. Fresneda has been a standout performer in the Champions League, notably during the epic comeback at Alvalade against Bodo/Glimt (a 5-0 win after a 0-3 loss in Norway), where he covered an astonishing 17 kilometers over 120 minutes. All eyes will undoubtedly be on him this Wednesday.

Hailing from Quijorna, a municipality of 3,500 residents in the province and autonomous community of Madrid, Fresneda developed through the academies of Real, Leganés, and Valladolid. He made his senior debut for Valladolid before moving to Sporting for €9 million. It took him some time to establish himself in the green and white starting XI, a spot he only truly secured this season. He won the battle against summer signing Vagiannidis, benefiting from Rui Borges' tactical shift, with the Spaniard fitting perfectly into the 4-2-3-1 formation, unlike his struggles in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3.

Fresneda is under contract until 2028, with an €80 million release clause. Sporting is open to negotiations, and it's certain they stand to profit significantly from the sale of a player whose market value has soared, particularly this season.
