Senate President reportedly stoned at Ilorin prayer ground

According to reports, Senate President, Bukola Saraki was, today, September 24, 2015, attacked at the Eid Praying Ground in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Saraki was said to have been stoned on the grounds along with other dignitaries including the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, and the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashir.

According to The Nation, the attackers were angry because of the failure of the government to use the bailout funds allocated by the Federal Government to pay arrears of workers’ salaries.

Some protesters were said to have started screaming “Ole! Ole!! Ole!!!(Thief, thief, thief) as Saraki entered the grounds while others shouted “Ebi n pa wa!” “Ebi yii tito Saraki!””A o ki run, e fun wa lounje”(We are hungry, enough of hunger Saraki. We're not praying, give us food.)

Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed was however absent at the venue as he went to Share, his hometown, to observe the prayers after reportedly being briefed of the security situation.
