Egypt's star player, Mohamed Salah, expressed his dissatisfaction with the officiating in their 3-2 World Cup Round of 16 loss to Argentina. The "Pharaohs" had held a 2-0 lead but conceded a late comeback, leading to their tournament exit.
"First and foremost, it was God's will. That was the destiny of this match and its outcome. We played an excellent first half and looked strong for most of the second. We made a few minor mistakes, and as for the refereeing, I prefer not to comment. Everyone saw what happened. I have nothing more to add," Salah stated.
"They disallowed a goal, and we also weren't awarded a penalty. Immediately after that, our opponents launched a counter-attack and scored. Our coach congratulated us on our tournament performance. He wanted us to go further, but such is God's will. We will build on what we achieved in this tournament, and God willing, an even more successful future awaits us," he added.
"We faced the reigning world champions, and we knew it would be an incredibly tough match. We prepared exceptionally well for this opponent, and it showed from the very first minutes. But ultimately, it was God's will for us," Salah concluded.
