Russian President Putin's favorite team Zenit St. Petersburg dumped out of the Europa League
Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday night after Dmitri Chyistakov's goal in the 90th minute was ruled out by VAR, ending their second-leg clash with a 0-0 draw against Spanish side Real Betis.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly a huge fan of Zenit St Petersburg and would no doubt be disappointed seeing that his favourite club failed to progress to the round of 16 of Europe’s second-tier competition on Thursday night, having previously lost the first leg tie at home in a 3-2 result against Real Betis.
Having previously dropped from the UEFA Champions League to Europa after finishing third behind Juventus and Chelsea in group H, Zenit had hoped to overturn the deficit on Thursday but were denied any chance of that after VAR intervened in stoppage time.
