Lewis Moody: England won't beat Australia at World Cup

Former Rugby World Cup winner Lewis Moody has declared England are not "good enough to beat Australia" in their must-win Pool A clash.

Having lost to Wales on Saturday, hosts England face Australia - ranked third in the world - knowing another defeat will effectively spell the end of their World Cup campaign.

"At the end of the pool, I think England will be going home at the moment, on [Saturday's] form they won't be good enough to beat Australia," Moody told Perform.

England started the tournament with a 35-11 win over Fiji and led by seven points with only nine minutes remaining against the Welsh.

But a try from Gareth Davies and Dan Biggar's match-winning penalty in the closing stages saw Wales surge into second in Pool A's standings, with Australia - winners over Fiji and Uruguay so far - on top.

England coach Stuart Lancaster has described the upcoming match against the Wallabies as "like a World Cup final" and Moody agrees: "It's purely and simply now their World Cup final; lose that Australia game and England will be out of World Cup before they have even made it to the play-offs."

Moody played 71 Tests for England between 2001 and 2011 and was on the field when Jonny Wilkinson slotted a drop goal to secure the World Cup against Australia in 2003.
