Former Barcelona and Brazil national team star Rivaldo has expressed his admiration for Lionel Messi's performance, as the Argentine maestro continues to make history at the 2026 World Cup. Messi was instrumental in Argentina's dramatic 3-2 comeback victory against Egypt in the Round of 16, after initially trailing 0-2.
"What selflessness, what a drive to win, what a fight, and what dedication from the entire team! This is exactly what fans want to see on the pitch during a World Cup," Rivaldo posted on social media.
"To talk about Lionel Messi is to state the obvious. What a player! At 39 years old, in his sixth World Cup, he continues to show the same passion for the Argentina jersey: he celebrates, he fights, he cries, and once again, he becomes the decisive figure," Rivaldo remarked, clearly impressed.
"I am Brazilian, I love my country, and I will always support our national team. Rivalry is an integral part of football, but I also know how to acknowledge and admire a magnificent match and a team that leaves everything on the field," the former forward shared.
"Such matches make football even greater and are a true spectacle for the World Cup. I congratulate Argentina on advancing to the next round," the Brazilian legend concluded.
