The 47-year-old Briton suffered a serious fall at the World Young Horse Championships in October last year, suffering head trauma that led to him being put in a coma.

But, riding his horse Chilli Morning, Fox-Pitt is top with a score of 37 penalties, sitting above Christopher Burton (37.60) and Michael Jung (40.90).
Fox-Pitt said he was simply fortunate to be at the Games, having realised late last year just how little time he had to recover.
"In November I thought Rio is still months away but then I suddenly realised that Rio is just around the corner," he said.
"I had lots of help with my rehabilitation and I saw more experts than I ever wanted to see.

"For me it was perfect timing and I am just lucky to be here."
