Bradley Wiggins not assured of place - Sutton

Bradley Wiggins is not guaranteed a place at the 2016 Olympic Games, British Cycling's technical director Shane Sutton has said.

Wiggins has won seven Olympic medals in his illustrious career, with six of them coming on the track.

After focusing on road racing in recent years the 35-year-old has returned to the track in search of an eighth medal in Rio later this year, and won gold in the team pursuit at the European Track Championships in October.

Wiggins is set to compete at the World Track Championships for the first time since 2008 in London next month and Sutton insists the 2012 Tour de France winner will have to earn his Olympic place at that event.

"There's six guys in the mix at this moment in time," Sutton told the BBC.

"Brad's one of the strong guys in that group, but he has to go out and produce - and that will determine whether he makes the road to Rio or not.
