Have you ever had to pick out a restaurant you think will really impress your date and when you get there, there are no seats? No? Neither have I.

The thing is, I don't think making restaurant reservations are really a thing in Nigeria, yet. Okay, maybe for the elite class, but not the large majority of Nigerians. We just aren't at that point yet, socially and culturally. However, there is a new company that wants to help make the entire process of making reservations a whole lot easier - and it may just be a game changer (or not, you tell me).

Reservation.ng is a first of its kind restaurant reservation platform starting out in Nigeria, or more specifically, Lagos.

The platform aims to take out the hassle of reserving a restaurant by searching for the details of the restaurant you want to make use of first before actually making the reservation.

Users of the platform can also get 'exclusive deals' at some of the company's partner restaurants when you make a reservation online as well as participate in a loyalty points scheme which you can build up and maybe get a free meal at a really expensive restaurant someday.

Right now, the company has already partnered with Insignia Restaurant, Chow Mein, Bottles, UptownRestaurant, Switch 1922 Lounge and Grill, and Arabesque, amongst others. Those are some of the names I could get off a test attempt at booking a reservation at one of the restaurants listed on the site.

Basically, all you have to do is go on to the RNG website, find a restaurant you like, make a reservation and you're set. A visit to the website shows that there aren't very many options, but I would like to believe that the company is working on getting more restaurants on board - that's the whole point, right?

I am keen to see where this goes, especially because it is a new category being explored by the brave souls at RNG (tired of hearing ecommerce this, ecommerce that). Stay tuned!
