Reps probe N2.7b package for NERC board

The House of Representatives has ordered a probe into the N2.7b severance package approved for board members of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The House, rising from a meeting, mandated the Committee on Power, to look into the matter and report back.

The motion for the probe was moved by Honourable Mohammed Gololo, who said the approval of the severance package was unconstitutional.

Vanguard Newspapers reports that Gololo said “the planned payment conflicted with the recommendations of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.”

Adding that  “the approval also offended section 42 (1) (a) and (b) of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, adding that NERC had no recurrent expenditure in the 2015 budget.”

“This suggests that the commission either does not pay any salaries to its board members and staff or pay salaries from funds that have not been paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation,” Gololo said.
