Renato Veiga: "Cristiano Ronaldo? I can't talk about it, I've been told not to..."
Having started and played every minute of Portugal's three matches under Jorge Jesus, Renato Veiga reflected on another victory for the national team away to Denmark, contrasting it with their defeat 18 months ago (a 1-0 loss in the 2025 Nations League quarter-finals), though the Portuguese Football Federation barred him from addressing the controversy surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo.
"It was a very accomplished performance against tough opponents on a difficult pitch. We've played here before and struggled. It was a great collective display and a strong match on our part, though I'm not sure if it was our best, as we've had three great games. We have one more to close out this international break," Rúben Dias' defensive partner began in the mixed zone, before being pressed on Ronaldo.
"I'm very close to Cristiano Ronaldo and he knows how much affection I have for him, but I've been instructed not to speak on the matter, so..." he explained before being questioned again. "I really can't talk about it, I'm sorry, I can't," he added, repeatedly glancing over at the press officer.
Veiga also reaffirmed his pride in representing his country. "As I said in the preview for the Norway game, I work hard every day to give my best, both for my club and the Seleção. For me, playing for the national team is the greatest privilege any player, especially a Portuguese one, can experience. I cherish every time I wear the shirt. It's a huge honour and the goal is to keep developing," he noted, praising the progress under Jorge Jesus.
"We've played here before and it wasn't easy, which makes today's result even more commendable. It was a very solid performance that further reinforces what the manager asks of us. We've also had more time to work together, and now it's about focusing on the next one," he concluded, targeting another win against Norway at the Estádio do Dragão.
