Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) sides Remo Stars and Kwara United have had their opponents for the 2022/23 CAF Confederations Cup first preliminary round revealed.

In a CAF competitions draw on Tuesday, Remo Stars who finished third in last season's NPFL were drawn against 2010 champions AS FAR, while Kwara United were picked to face AS Douanes of Niger.

The first legs of the first preliminary rounds are expected to hold between 9-11th September, with the return games slated for 16-18th September.

For the second preliminary round of the competition, should the Sky Blue Stars progress, they will face the winner of the game between AAGBS of Guinea and Mauritania's Nouakchott Kings.

Nouakchott Kings emerged champions of Mauritania's President's cup, while AAGBS won the 2022 Guinée Coupe Nationale.

Winners of the second preliminary round will then face off losers of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round in a playoff round.

The group stages will see 16 teams from the playoff round compete against themselves in a round-robin format.

Kwara United to meet Berkane in the second round

While Remo are unsure of who they could face in the second preliminary round, fourth-placed NPFL side Kwara United will meet Morocco's RS Berkane should they defeat Douanes.

Berkane are the defending champions of the Confederation Cup having defeated Orlando Pirates on penalties at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria to win their second African title in May. 

Kwara United finished fourth in the recently completed NPFL season and last made an appearance in the Confederation Cup in 2007.
