Relegation-battling Oviedo Stuns Celta Away From Home

Celta Vigo suffered a shocking 3-0 defeat at home to Oviedo in a La Liga matchday 31 fixture. Alberto Reina opened the scoring in the 5th minute, with Federico Viñas (45’, 57’) adding two more goals. The hosts dominated possession for large periods but failed to convert it into meaningful chances. Guillermo Almada's side, however, capitalized on their opportunities, primarily playing on the counter-attack, and could have even secured a larger victory.

The match started perfectly for the Asturian team, who took the lead after just five minutes. This came after a series of defensive errors from Celta, whose defenders twice failed to clear the ball, with subsequent deflections sending it to Reina, who slotted it home. A few half-chances followed before the final minute of regular time in the first half. Striker Viñas then benefited from a good cross from the right by Sheira, stretching out a leg to beat Ionuț Radu for the second time.

The visitors missed a golden opportunity to extend their lead ten minutes into the second half when Javi Lopez squandered a clear chance. The goal eventually came three minutes later, with Viñas once again converting a cross, this time from the left flank, effectively sealing the win.

This result continues Celta's poor run of form in recent weeks. Claudio Giraldez's team has secured only one victory in their last five La Liga matches. The Galician side still occupies sixth position and remains in contention for European qualification next season. Oviedo, on the other hand, remains in the relegation zone, but this victory and their strong performances in recent weeks – with three wins in four league games – offer renewed hope for retaining their top-flight status.
