Chelsea captain Reece James has undergone "minor" knee surgery, the club has announced. The 26-year-old Englishman missed last weekend's victory over Bournemouth, with Xabi Alonso revealing at the time that the defender felt discomfort during training before scans confirmed a knee problem.

James has made six appearances for Chelsea so far this season, but his last outing came on 12 September. He also missed the clash against Brentford prior to the international break and subsequently sat out England's fixtures due to a muscle strain.
The club have not specified a timeframe for his expected recovery.
Back in March, James signed a new six-year contract, committing his future to Stamford Bridge until 2032.
