Following their victorious first leg against AEK in the Conference League quarter-finals, Rayo Vallecano returned to domestic action with a defeat to Mallorca in the Balearic Islands.
Indeed, the Madrid coach, Iñigo Pérez, made numerous changes to the starting lineup, with the return leg against AEK in Nea Filadelfeia looming.
Mallorca started the match aggressively, and in the 24th minute, Torre had a good opportunity from a direct free-kick, which Cárdenas miraculously saved.
In the 31st minute, the hosts found the net through Luvumbo, but the goal was disallowed for offside. However, five minutes later, Darder sent the ball into the heart of the box, and Muriqi, after collecting the rebound, finished the move to make it 1-0. It took only a few minutes for the first goalscorer to strike again, doubling his team's lead in the 40th minute.
In the second half, Torre nearly made it 3-0, but his shot hit the left post. However, in the 65th minute, he delivered a cross into the area, and Virgili then scored Mallorca's third goal.
The hosts continued to press for a fourth goal and create problems, but without success, with the score remaining 3-0 until the final whistle.
