Haas officially announced yesterday that Rafael Camara will join their driver line-up starting from the 2027 Formula 1 season.
The move marks the Brazilian's debut in the World Championship. According to Brazilian journalist Julianne Cerasoli, Camara will race with the #50. He originally sought #5 or #55, but with both numbers already occupied by compatriot Gabriel Bortoleto and Carlos Sainz respectively, he turned to his third choice: #50.
The reasoning behind Camara's selection stems from his date of birth—May 5, 2005. Interestingly, his future Haas teammate Oliver Bearman ran #50 in his first two outings for the American outfit during the 2024 season, when the Briton stood in for Kevin Magnussen in Azerbaijan and São Paulo. From 2025 onwards, Bearman has carried #87 on his car.
