61% say Muslims are NOT more marginalised in Nigeria

Majority of Pulse readers disagree with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, who thinks Muslims are more marginalised in Nigeria.

On July 4, 2016, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, spoke on the ill treatment of Muslims in Nigeria.

According to him, Muslims are more marginalised in Nigeria, as opposed to Christians, who are never excluded or questioned.

"When there is a vacant position and a Hausa man is appointed, we called it ‘Northernisation’ and when a Muslim leader visit an Islamic country we say he is trying to Islamise Nigeria.

In fact, there are many people from other religion and tribes occupying other offices and we witness many Christian leaders who have visited Christian countries but nobody said they were planning to ‘Christianise’ the country,” he said.

Pulse readers were asked to weigh in.

Majority, 61 percent, disagreed with the religious leader, while 39 percent said yes.

I think the Sultan of Sokoto has a point.

The fact that Muslims can not wear their hijab and other forms of clothing, without facing criticism or fear of terrorism shows that they are marginalised.
