However all of the anticipation quickly melted under the scorching Lagos sun when we arrived at the venue and artisans were still hard at work, trying to set up the venue - roughly one hour to showtime. Fast forward three hours later and the grounds of Ocean View; venue of the GTB Lagos Fashion & Design Week finally had a semblance of what we had anticipated for many weeks - an orange carpet brimming with the best and brightest of the Nigerian fashion and lifestyle scene.
Kicking off the catwalk show was London-based male line, Soboye by Samson Soboye whose designs featured a predominant use of ankara fabrics. Next up came the classic pieces of Ella Gabby, Busola Bamisile's Orente Ayaba, Wana Sambo and Weizdhurm followed in quick succession.
Meanwhile, back on the orange carpet Nollywood actress, Stephanie Okereke and Noble Igwe of 360 Nobs made a not-so subtle entrance as they posed for pictures and granted interviews.
Back in the hall, Xclamations and Alter Ego were lighting up the runway with their respective collections. Valerie David, whom Ndidi Obioha of Enthyst Events later revealed to Pulse as her best designer of the night dazzled with her playful mix of fabrics and femininity. Kinabuti, Kola Kuddos and Sunny Rose came next after that while Christie Brown ended the night with her brilliant display.
Day 1 of the GTB Lagos Fashion & Design week may have gotten off to a shaky start, but there's no doubt that the rest of the night played out very nicely with the amazing array of designs which were showcased by all 12 designers on display.
