A case for Mourinho and non for Pochettino

Manchester United’s unbeaten run was ended by Arsenal who beat the Red Devils 2-0. That loss ended Jose Mourinho’s hope for a top four finish with only the Europa League now the route for a Champions League spot next season.

Mourinho’s first season at Manchester United still divides opinions. With a League Cup title already this season and a Europa League very likely, they are those who believe that Mourinho has had a good debut season at Manchester United.

Their Premier League form, however, has left many with the opinion that he has failed this season. Mourinho’s Manchester United are level on point with Louis van Gaal’s team with the same number of games.

But certain nuances can’t be ignored when analysing both teams. This is not a Mourinho team yet, he inherited a bunch of average players and must be commended for giving them a chance.

Now they have failed him, it’s time for Mourinho to build his own team. The Manchester United project was never going to be a short-term thing. Mourinho should be given the time to rebuild this club,  some results this season have shown he can do that.

Tottenham crash again

Mauricio Pochettino has gotten all the plaudits for Tottenham’s run this season, but after crashing out yet again out of the title race, the revering have to stop.

Yes, he has built an incredibly talented team at Tottenham but failing to win a trophy with this team for two seasons shows a major flaw in Pochettino. Building a fanatic team is one, winning with it is another.

Managers have won the Premier League with a less talented team and Pochettino should take the blame for these collapses.

Rivals will get stronger and better next season, Spurs might not be able to keep their players. It’s only going to get tougher for Poch.

Arsenal’s victory means nothing

Arsenal beat Manchester United 2-0, a win that might be the most pyrrhic in recent history. United have lost hopes of a top four finish, Arsenal are likely not going to make top four either.

Arsenal in recent seasons always have two huge home wins; at the beginning of the season like Chelsea in October and now Manchester United.

Nothing changes; they still remain the Arsenal we know.

Guardiola needs another season

The jury has been unfairly out for Pep Guardiola after just one season in the Premier League. This is the first time he is finishing a football season without a title. That's failing for his own standards.

But this is a new and difficult league for him with lots of ageing players. Their 4-0 win over Crystal Palace shows how devastating they can be.

Another season for Guardiola in Manchester City and we can fairly judge him.
