Andoni Iraola has informed Bournemouth that he will depart as head coach at the end of the season, upon the expiration of his contract. The 43-year-old Spanish manager communicated his decision to the squad after Tuesday's training session, and the club has since made the announcement.

The departure, a topic of speculation for several months, brings an end to a three-season tenure between Iraola and the club. According to English press reports, over 15 months of negotiations, Iraola maintained regular dialogue with Football Director Tiago Pinto and Technical Director Simon Francis, but never committed to a contract renewal.

Under the Basque coach's guidance, Bournemouth achieved a record Premier League points tally last season (56) and matched their best-ever ninth-place finish from 2016/17, under Eddie Howe. Iraola also earned praise for developing players such as Dean Huijsen (sold to Real Madrid), Illia Zabarnyi (PSG), Milos Kerkez (Liverpool), and Antoine Semenyo (Manchester City).

Andoni is someone I have immense admiration for, both as a head coach and as a person. His attention to detail, tactical intelligence, and ability to get the best out of players are qualities we've witnessed daily. We naturally respect his decision and thank him for everything he has done for this club. — Tiago Pinto, Bournemouth Football Director

Iraola was also at the helm when Bournemouth signed Evanilson from FC Porto in the summer of 2024.

Search for a Replacement Underway

Despite the club's hopes of retaining the manager for next season, the board has ultimately accepted his departure. Bournemouth is now accelerating its search for a successor, and according to The Guardian, Marco Rose, formerly of RB Leipzig and Dortmund, and Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town, are reportedly among the targets of interest.

For now, Bournemouth's next fixture is on Saturday, away to Newcastle. The Cherries currently sit 11th in the Premier League with 45 points, but are only three points adrift of 6th-placed Chelsea. Iraola could still guide the club to a new historic league finish, should they surpass the ninth-place he has already achieved.
