A video surfaced on the internet showing a teacher volunteering to donate one of her kidneys to an ailing student has now gone viral.
In the video, Beth Battista the teacher, is hugging Dena Carreyn, the mother of 4-year-old Lyla, both from Madison, Wisconsin, USA.
Little Lyla has Microscopic Polyangiitis (or MPA). It's a rare autoimmune-related vasculitis which causes damaging kidney failure.
In the video, Battista hands Dena a box with a note inside that reads;
"I may just be her teacher now, but soon a little piece of me will be with Lyla forever. I'm Lyla's kidney donor."
The video, which was posted on September 15 has now garnered over 61,000 views on Facebook. Dena posted on Facebook:
“Many people think teachers are heroes. Beth Battista is more than our hero; she is our miracle."
Over to you, if you had a sick student, would you donate a kidney to him or her? Tell us!
