Born April 4, 1923, the actor who passed away at the age of 93 on December 6, 2016, was an English actor known for numerous supporting roles in British films and television productions. He has also worked extensively on the stage.

In "Game of Thrones," Vaughan portrayed Aemon a wise old teacher who was loved and trusted by many. In the ninth episode of the first season, he revealed himself to be a Targaryen.

The actor made his debut in  the 1959’s "The 39 Steps," which was a classic Alfred Hitchcock film.

He was best known for his role as Maester Aemon in "Game of Thrones" and as Grouty in the 1979 "Porridge."

His other works include  "Death at a Funeral," "Smokescreen," "Les Miserables," Monte Carlo" among others.

The actor's cause of death is yet to be known as at time of this report.
