The robbery happened along the Ore-Ondo expressway where the Osun United team bus had stopped after developing a fault.

It was while the bus was being attended to that the robbers came out of the bush to rob the players and officials of the club.
28 people were on that trip including 18 players and the coaches led by Duke Udi.
The bus was thoroughly ransacked by the robbers who also inflicted injuries on several players with machetes.
Money, phones and other valuables were lost to the robbers.
According to , the incident has been confirmed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr Femi Joseph who also said the attackers might be from the nearby villages.
“Those people that attacked the footballers are not deadly armed robbers because they only attacked them with cutlass and sticks. If they were real armed robbers, they would attack with guns,” Joseph said.
“When the footballers were trying to retreat, some of them were injured by the hoodlums. The injured ones have been taken to the hospital in Ondo town.”
Police have kicked off investigations on the incident.
