Earlier media reports had it that Osinbajo’s trip was cancelled because President Muhammadu Buhari would also be abroad at the same time leaving Saraki to act as the nation’s most senior official.

The denial was made by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande.

“Nigeria has been invited to the Indian/African Summit and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment will be leading a delegation to the event. There is nothing like cancellation. Remember that the visit of the Vice-President to any country is not treated in secrecy,” Akande said.

“Whenever the Vice-President is to travel out of the country, we inform Nigerians. So, this story in question is a bunch of speculation. There is no cancellation,” he added.

Buhari will expectedly leave Nigeria for Equatorial Guinea today, March 14, 2016 to hold talks with President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo on further measures to protect the people and resources of the Niger Delta and Gulf of Guinea.
