Former England captain David Beckham recently came face-to-face with one of his footballing nemeses, Diego Simeone. The ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid star met the current Atletico Madrid manager during Argentina's Round of 16 clash against Cape Verde at the 2026 World Cup in Miami. Beckham and "Cholo" were among the VIP guests at the thrilling 120-minute encounter. They were accompanied by their wives, Victoria Beckham and Carla Pereyra, and commemorated their meeting with a joint photograph.

The two former footballers share a memorable history. At the World Cup finals in France 28 years ago, Beckham received a red card for kicking Simeone after play had stopped. Subsequently, the then-Manchester United midfielder was scapegoated by the English football public for the Three Lions' exit, with the "Spice Boy" being booed at stadiums across the UK when he played away with United in the following months.

Four years later, David exacted his revenge, scoring the winning penalty against Argentina in Sapporo, where both he and Cholo had led their respective nations as captains. The defeat to England played a significant role in the shocking group stage elimination of Marcelo Bielsa's star-studded team.
